Find in this guide all the information to successfully upgrade your Wanhao Duplicator 9 MKII to MKIII printer.
You will find assembly instructions there, as well as adjustment instructions.
Important note on the "Dual" extruder version: it is important to consider that using two filaments in the same print requires advanced knowledge of 3D printing. It is important that beginners first learn to master printing with a single filament before diving into printing with two extruders and two filaments. Please refer to our explanations and advice below.
Video of assembly and adjustment of the Wanhao D12 Single and Dual 3D printer
We invite you to watch the assembly and adjustment video in full, even if this is not your first 3D printer.
Notes on mounting and adjusting your D12:
- As shown in the video, assembly does not present any difficulties, however organize your work space beforehand, identify the parts carefully, and look closely at the numbers and letters on the printer and on the bags to see the correspondences.
- The printer has many cables and connectors. The majority are located in the chassis and are not visible. However some of them are flying, particularly those going to the print head and onto the gantry. Be careful to place them in the right places during assembly to avoid jamming when moving the moving parts of the printer.
- The printer comes with all the tools needed for assembly and adjustment. There are additional tools that are not required for assembly, but may be required if parts are to be disassembled. Consider keeping them.
- At the end of assembly, there may be a few additional screws or elements remaining. These are duplicate items in case of loss or otherwise. Keep them safe.
- As shown in the video, the nozzle may have filament remnants and the Teflon (PTFE) tube may have small marks at each tip. This is completely normal, as many machine components are factory tested, particularly the print head and extruders.
- If you opted for the Dual version, you can install the second extruder now or later. The printer is made to work in single extruder mode. If, however, you decide to install the second extruder and do not plan to use it, do not connect the filament detector cable or insert a small piece of filament into it. Without this, the printer will not start, thinking that filament is missing for printing.
- Before turning on the 3D printer for the first time, remember to lower the platen by turning the knobs located on the bottom. This is intended to possibly cause the nozzle to crash against the plate and potentially damage the machine. Theoretically, this is not necessary, but since it will be necessary to adjust the plate later, leave a little room for the head to move around.
